The Veracity of Conflict

Conflict. When I was in high school, over 12 years ago now, one of my favorite bands was Conflict. Conflict was a punk band from the UK who stood for anarchy, autonomy, and nihilism. This was back before flat irons and hot topic. Liberty spikes were made with glue, a hand held iron and an ironing board. You couldn’t buy belts or bracelets with spikes in them, so we took leather belts and hammered them in there with blood and sweat. It was good times. As I’ve grown older I’ve realized that conflict isn’t just a band but something human beings are constantly caught up in.
This sermon is week 4 of The God of Future section of our “The God(ness) of God” sermon series. This sermon concludes our series. It is an exegetical treatment of Romans 11:33-36, addressing how God knows all things, does all things well, and is worthy of all our praise. People are fascinated with people. Two of the top magazines in the country are PEOPLE and US Weekly. People are interested in people. Whether you’re in an airport or a mall, people are always secretly looking at each other while trying to be seen looking. But having a true people focus, that goes beyond uncaught glances isn’t that easy. Common, the hip hop artist, says this in his song titled The People, “We do it for the people…the struggles of the brothas and the folks…lovers under dope, experiment to discover hopes…Scuffle for notes, the rougher I wrote, times were harder…Went from rocky starter to a voice of a martyr.” It’s not easy to really care for people.
